By Coach Jeffrie Jumawan, TAG International Tennis Academy, Singapore
Players who train with me often say the same thing after their first session: they hit more balls in one hour than they did in a month of casual play. That is by design. My sessions at TAG International Tennis Academy are built around live-ball rallying — I train alongside you, not just feed from a basket.
The structure of a typical session
We start with short-court rallying to groove contact and rhythm, then extend to full-court live-ball drills where the goal is sustained rallies, not winners. From there we layer in footwork patterns and directional targets, and finish with matchplay points so everything trained under fatigue gets tested under pressure. The emphasis throughout is repetition and consistency — the fastest route to dependable strokes for both juniors and adults.
Why rally volume matters
Basket feeding has its place for technical corrections, but matches are played on moving, unpredictable balls. High-volume rallying trains your reading of the ball, recovery steps and shot tolerance at the same time. It is also simply more engaging — you play tennis, rather than rehearse it.
Training within the TAG network
I coach as part of TAG International Tennis Academy, alongside coaches like Coach Bo Alburo, and I am featured on CoachX Tennis, where you can compare coaches and book structured lessons across Singapore. Racquet-sport players exploring pickleball can also find courts and coaching through PickleChoo, part of the same network.
